To build a home

We're going on month six since we signed the contract on our new home, and month five of living with my mom. The house is slowly but surely coming along... well, mostly just slowly, but there has definitely been significant progress in the last couple weeks. They bricked the outside, mostly drywalled the inside, and poured the driveway. Now all we have left is a million other things that go into piecing together a home. But it will be beautiful, and it will be worth it, and I already envision our future there. Just waiting on that future to begin...

I've never been more excited to see wood.

Hey look, there's been progress on our house! We're just a wee bit excited. Been living with mom nearly three months now (is this summer flying by for anyone else??), and they JUST poured our foundation and started framing in the last week. I knew building would be tedious and frustrating, but it's hard to really fathom until you experience it yourself. Anyway, things are going fine and we are so grateful. It's pretty darn exciting, though, to see our little space in the world starting to take shape.  If you're new here or need to catch up, check out this post about why we made the decision to leave our old home and build a new one!

Hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful, restful weekend. Here's a couple featured SOML sponsors to entertain you the next few days. Check 'em out.

Homeless

I don't even know where to begin. It feels so strange to say this, but as of this morning, we are officially homeless. Signed over our beautiful home to a new family. Left all of the blood, sweat, and tears in the past behind us. Closed a chapter. Wiped the slate clean.

Or more accurately, we have officially sold our home and moved in with my poor mother. ;) Even though this process has consumed my life for the last month, I haven't written about it here for safety and privacy reasons, but now that the home is in the new buyer's posession, I'm free as a bird to lay down this burden of information. Do you know what it's like to have a blog called "Story of My Life" and not be able to share this massive thing going on behind the scenes?! Ha! It feels weird, that's how it feels. I'm not very good at keeping secrets... we're talking sweaty palms and nervous trembling here. I would never pass a lie detector test. Any time I try to be sneaky, I get caught. So it's been weird keeping this from my blog.

Truth be told, I am beyond exhausted. Too tired to feel very much emotion. Matthew and I did the work of five burly men and a team of housekeepers in one four day weekend by ourselves. Every night we fell into bed, bruised, sometimes bleeding, feet and back and hips and shoulders so sore we could barely walk, and then we started over again the next day. I feel like a 70 year old woman, and if I feel that way, I can't even imagine how Matthew feels. That man never ceases to amaze me. He did all the hardest work for us, and now he has finals to take the next two weeks. Major props to that guy. We are both going to be super pleased when this whole "law school" thing is over. ;)

But yes, our home... our beautiful, beautiful home that we poured ourselves into and completely transformed the last three years... it's now a memory. And I'm OK with that, I think. I haven't shed a single tear (yet). It just wasn't right for us anymore. We were living beyond our means while Matthew is in school, and piling on so much more stress than necessary, so we're downsizing to something smaller and more affordable but lovely just the same. The new home won't be built until early fall (FINGERS CROSSED), so until that time, we are living with my mom and Norman (the basset-weinie), and we are so, sooooo grateful to be here. There will be lots of adjusting and tweaking to do (most notably with Gracie and Cooper, who want to slap Norman on a bun with a little ketchup, mustard, and relish and eat him for dinner), but we will manage and I think we might even have FUN. Thank God for family, especially when you even really like each other.

So that, my friends, is my confession. The little secret I've been keeping. Feels good to get it off my chest! I can't wait to continue sharing this crazy, beautiful life with all of you... there's so much more good to come.

Here's a few phone photos I snapped of the house when we finally got every last bit of our stuff out... it looked so pretty, and of course I felt a twinge of sadness... but then I remembered what a bitch it was to keep clean, and didn't feel so sad anymore. ;)

Goodbye, house. It's been real.

If you're new around these parts, check out some house tour posts from the past! Or take a little trip down memory lane with me....

A picture an hour

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Hope you all have a nice day, single or taken, and remember you are loved.

I've seen this "a picture an hour" post around on different blogs lately (I think it originated here), and yesterday I thought I'd try it. It was kind of hard since I often sit at my computer for hours at a time, but good because it challenged me to take little breaks and do other things... can't just keep taking pictures of my keyboard. ;)

These photos don't necessarily represent everything I did that hour - they are just a little scene I saw. It was definitely an uneventful day (nothing too exciting happened), but that's sort of a day in the life around here. I sit on my butt, working on stuff on the computer, from dawn til dusk many days. I wish yesterday I had some exercise to show for myself, but alas, I did not.  Here are my pictures...

* * * * *

7 am - Gracie and Cooper get breakfast :)

8 am - my favorite breakfast lately: scrambled eggs with pico de gallo mixed in and fresh avo on top. Fruit on the side, a glass of water, and vitamins. :)

9 am - Get to work. This heart wallpaper from design love fest makes me smile.

Second cup of coffee came early. Yep, one of those kind of days...

10 am - Snoozing happily while Mommy works.

11 am - still working. Cooper in his regular post under my chair or desk. Bored and wishing we were on a walk.

12 noon - went to visit Norman while my mom was volunteering. Such a little goob.

1 PM - lunch of champions: multigrain cheerios.

Cleaned kitchen - the before was atrocious.

2 pm - I believe in power naps.

So does Cooper.

3 pm - a little french press coffee for an afternoon pick me up before getting back to work...

4 pm - editing pictures is better with a "Caramel Delight" Girl Scout cookie.

5 pm - took a break to paint my fingers and toes in preparation for the big day. Red with gold glitter. :)

6 pm - french dip sandwich for din din... veggie chips and an apple on the side.

7 pm - nightly bathtime ritual... this is my favorite place in the house.

Tired face and messy hair. A good day. :)

Christmas Home Tour 2012

Well folks, Matthew brought home something foul from law school, and I officially have the sickies. (he denies being the bearer of said sickness, however, it seems logical he would be, given I fell ill immediately after our first make out session of Christmas break.) Thanks a lot, you dirty law students!

But anyway, I have still been plugging away at the decorating in our home, and today I have a few pictures for you. Hope you enjoy the little peek at our decor this year! And I hope your day is far less sniffly than mine...
