Soundtrack of my life

Only three more days in May... I think after this Challenge I might not blog the rest of the summer... ;)

Today's topic is five songs or pieces of music that speak to you or bring back memories. This was a really interesting exercise and one that I truly enjoyed. Music speaks to me like nothing else, and really does define certain periods of my life. I found myself reliving so many different parts of my life... opening old wounds, feeling old pains and pleasures, if you will. I can close my eyes, turn on any one of these songs, and be instantly transported to a place in my past...

* * * * *

You Look So Fine by Garbage. I used to be obsessed with this song all through high school. I still really like it to this day.

Angel by
Dave Matthews Band. And everything else by DMB, too. Almost nothing more effectively takes me right back than good ol' Dave.

Endlessly by Muse. This song reminds me vividly of a certain infatuation with a past love...

Cheers, Darlin' by Damien Rice... and this song reminds me of the death of that same relationship...

Say When by The Fray. This The Fray's CD had just come out when I met Matthew, and I was listening to this song on repeat while I fell in love with him. Brings me right back there...

And I know I said only five... but here's a few bonus tracks - songs I'm currently obsessed with and know will come to define this current time in my life... :)

Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey.

Light Outside by Wakey!Wakey!

What list of my most defining music would be complete without Fun.? I've listened to their stuff to death, but here's some more, anyway.

Snaps from a rainy morning

turn the speakers up. close your eyes. listen.

We woke up to a cool and rainy morning, and something about that little change in the weather inspired me to snap a few photos. We have a lot going on right now... things I can't talk about just yet, but will in due time. Anyway, those "things" are consuming so much of my thoughts and time, but more than ever I'm enjoying little moments and simple pleasures, especially while there's so much scariness out there in the world, and you just don't know what the next day's news might bring.

So many other people have better things to say than I do this morning, so here's a few links to browse, if you're interested...

naked yoga?! (thanks, but no thanks.)

I'm obsessed with this song and video. I think I've watched/listened 400 times. Nate Ruess, I love you...

Here's MIchael Grubbs from Wakey!Wakey! playing the song I included at the top of this post. Just saw him play here in Austin last weekend, and WOW. Talented (and hilarious) guy.

I've been chipping away at making some of these detox smoothies... yum!

Happy Thursday :)

Carry On

I am feeling uninspired today.

Distracted.

Busy.

Four photo sessions to edit, which tends to crowd out my desire to blog. I'm happy though. Thankful to be busy. I love my family and my life and that it's cold here in Texas this week. Yesterday I had two cups of coffee, a cup of hot cocoa, a cup of hot tea, and some peppermint ice cream.  Trying to get it all in before it feels like summer again.

Can you believe that next week is Thanksgiving already? This time last year I went to the dentist and was told I had a massive cyst in my jaw, and then I was given referrals to a facial reconstructionist and oral surgeon. Scared the shit out of me, excuse my french. This November Matthew has been told he has two grape sized tumors on his liver, and while the doctors don't seem terribly concerned just yet, we're still like "Woah, not cool! What does this mean?" Hopefully nothing. You'll certainly hear from me if it's anything serious!

Life, you crazy thing.

Sometimes Wednesdays need an anthem like this. Cute lead singers don't hurt either. Hope your hump day is a good one!

PS - I am currently obsessed with this band (Fun). I literally teared up when I found out they were coming to Austin in February... and that the show is sold out. STUPID.

Cake Balls, Anyone?

Feb 5 062-2 So, apparently the new cool thing is cake balls… had you heard?  If not, you don’t spend nearly enough time on Pinterest and the Internet at large—but not to worry.  That’s where Internet addicts like me come in.  We teach you things.  ;)

I’d been wanting to try Austin Cake Ball, so it seemed the perfect place to meet up with Ruthie and Mallorie.  To be honest with you, I can now truthfully say that cake balls aren’t my thing.  They’re a bit too dense for me, and weren’t what I was expecting.  But it was still a fun outing, and one thing cake balls certainly have going for them is how danged cute they are!  Worth a try, at least.

Feb 5 043-1Feb 5 038-2Feb 5 046-3these two are adorable, no?

Feb 5 049-2The chicken on top was “red velvet crusted.”  Meaning actual red velvet cake! So weird!

Feb 5 059-2

On another note, Mallorie’s husband Dave Owens is a musician making his way here in Austin, and I am LOVING his music.  I’m a little obsessed with the song below… give it a listen. It’s short!
